My syllabus construction process summarized:
1. Assign everything
2. Realize assigning everything is impractical and unrealistic
3. Cut everything in half and assign that
4. Realize if I make students responsible for it, I am also making myself responsible for it
5. Cut everything in half again and assign that
6. Feel guilty for lowering the standards this much and failing to provide the academic rigor and intellectual challenge students come to college for
7. Assign everything
Sigh. Another morning of mutual assured destruction.
