"There are three possibilities in descending order of preference. We ought to aim at the first, but we really can't renounce the second until we are sure that we can avoid the third" said Kennedy on Trujillo's assassination: first possibility being a decent democratic regime, second and third are a continuation of the Trujillo regime or a Castro regime, respectively.
The real question to ask, however, should be 'what do we lose if we win?'
