Going away to school is really intimidating. I will be in a place I know nothing about, and since I'll be far enough away from home, I absolutely don't know anyone who goes there. Oh, how I wish I'd chosen to go back to NY -to my alma mater; everything would be a lot easier. As if moving across the country for grad school was not scary enough, now I also have to find a random stranger to share a new apartment with. The only thing more unnerving than being in a place you know nothing about is definitely to live with a person you know nothing about. With rooming blind, you never know who or what you will get. Okay, F. and I met at the registration point and lived blissfully together for 3 years; yes, she was friendly and personable, and she kept me sane through finals week. But I know plenty of other people who got stuck in a sticky situation and ended up in one-room hell for a year. On the other hand, getting single/living alone is never an option for me (I need someone -how dreadful s/he (???) may be!); besides it's cheaper to split the rent and utilities. Right now, I just want to know if I'm going to survive living in an off campus apartment..that's all. | ||
